AT THE EDGE WITH THELMA & LOUISE

AT THE EDGE WITH THELMA & LOUISE

It’s our favorite sunset spot in Pacific Grove, right smack in front of Mr Handy’s Lighthouse. Mr Handy was a volunteer Lighthouse docent for over 20 years. When we met, he was no longer a docent but one of my residents in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. My office was located in the wing where Mr Handy lived. He was a wonderful story-teller and he was one of my favorites….. one of many.  He never ran out…

CAN YOU SPARE IT?

CAN YOU SPARE IT?

Favorite eating places…..I’m guessin’ everybody has a few. My girlfriend has a Jewish Deli that she heads to soon as she hits L.A. When we used to fly back east, first stop off the plane was always the nearest White Castle for me. Sometime during our stay, we’d visit Senate Coney Island in Detroit and of course anyone from Downriver knows about Bob-Jo’s Frozen Custard. ……………….. There’s a small sandwich shop in Pacific Grove, California. In all the magical…

DAY THREE

DAY THREE

Breakfast The morning after The Wedding we were invited to a brunch.  We aren’t big breakfast foodies but…. after all we’d experienced the past 2 days, I needed to see what Day 3 was all about.  It was held in downtown Park City, 5 minutes from where we were staying.  It was in a restaurant inside a beautiful hotel…probably the nicest one in town.  The restaurant was Ruths Chris.  I don’t know if they’re usually open for Brunch but…

THE THREE DAY WEDDING…..Day Two

THE THREE DAY WEDDING…..Day Two

The Proposal Home base for his family is Bakersfield, they’re almond growers. He somehow wrote out in very large letters on their acreage, MARRY ME, then took her up in their plane and let her see it from above.  Sigh, just like in the movies.  The Ceremony The wedding was at 2 pm.  We were told that immediately following the ceremony, there would be  busses waiting to load the guests and take us 45 minutes up a mountain to…

THE THREE DAY WEDDING

THE THREE DAY WEDDING

DAY ONE Meet & Greet It was the first day of an unbelievable wedding extravaganza. …. What the heck were we doing there? Now California souls, the two of us were originally from Riverview, a small town in Michigan; a factory workers blue collar community.  So, again I asked myself, what were we doing in Park City, Utah attending this three-day affair? ………. You know how sometimes you get invited to a wedding because you know the parents and…

MR LINCOLN

MR LINCOLN

It began over 40 years ago…..honest. I was turning pages of a magazine and there it was. A face! A face I immediately fell in love with. I ripped the face out of the magazine, grabbed scissors and trimmed the edges and then taped that face up on the right hand corner of my refrigerator. Remember it was greater than 40 years ago.   The face was one of a dog. What kind of dog, I had no idea….

MR LINCOLN…..part 2

MR LINCOLN…..part 2

It was a beautiful Sunday in January, 1991.  We wanted to get out in the sun.   We drove to a very nice (at the time) shopping area in Sacramento called Country Club.  Just wanted to browse the stores, talk, walk and laugh. Without realizing it, we walked smack in front of a large pet store window.   The display was of two of the most adorable pups I’d ever seen.   They were cling to each other, one…

MR LINCOLN…..part 3

MR LINCOLN…..part 3

Like all who grieve for their furry friends, it took months to accept that both our Schnauzer’s, Bartles and Jaymes were gone. We relived the feel of them each time we removed something that had belonged to them; their food, treats, dishes, blankies, toys… all of it had to go.  And we settled in just the two of us. It was OK…..for a while but then I got lonely on the days I was off and Lobo was at…

MR LINCOLN…..part 4

MR LINCOLN…..part 4

A name!   He didn’t have a name! What should we call this WIREY little bundle I’d been holding in my arms all the way home from Nevada? We tossed a bunch of names around while we drove.   Nothing fit. When we were near home, we stopped at our neighborhood grocery store. Lobo ran in for something. I sat in the car falling deeper in love with the most adorable face I’d ever seen. I talked to him,…

MR LINCOLN…..part 5

MR LINCOLN…..part 5

I have to admit that our beginning with Lincoln was NOT smooth sailing.   He was crazy-wild and totally unpredictable.  He was like that wind-up energizer bunny.  We never knew what he was gonna think of next but we knew it was probably TROUBLE! He did chew-up a few of Lobo’s slippers, but…..he was a teething puppy and…..he was so cute! He WAS a lot of work, I can’t deny that. He was a master escape artist and a…
